ODYSSEUS II inspired young people throughout Europe to engage in space exploration through a series of educational activities. The main activity of the project was a fun-oriented educational contest (The Youth for Space Challenge) that combined scientific learning with hands-on experience. Organized in multiple rounds, the contest targeted all pupils and students in Europe, wherever they are living and irrespective of their cultural background or language. The ultimate aim of the project was to foster the development of qualified scientists, engineers and technicians in areas relevant to the priorities of EU space policy.

SPIA was responsible for media communications and stakeholder engagement in Odysseus II.

The ODYSSEUS II project received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 640218‏. It was funded with nearly two million Euros by the European Commission in the framework of EU HORIZON 2020. The project started in January 2015 and ran through December 2017. A strong consortium of fourteen partners and four supporting organisations from eleven European countries collaborated to provide learning opportunities in space science for European youth.
